The curriculum at Sterling High School is continuously being revised by teams of educators each year. Our goal is to have all curricula aligned with NJCCCS and Common Core state standards.
Our courses are written with the appropriate amount of rigor to both challenge and teach students of all levels, and to prepare them for college and/or career. Students are evaluated daily through formative assessments. These assessments will inform instruction. In addition, summative benchmark assessments are given to be sure all students reach a high level of expertise. We strive for the success of all students by providing professional development opportunities for our teachers.
Students have the opportunity to choose a Career and Academic major during their high school career. We have four year programs in Allied Health, Early Childhood Education, Multi-Media Graphic Design, NJROTC and Television Production. Students may select programs that result in certification and/or college credits.
Sterling High School has adopted the Danielson Framework for Teaching for classroom observations. This model requires each teacher to create Student Growth Objectives using baseline data to determine the amount of progress each individual will reach by the end of the year. The goals are written with student academic achievement as the priority.
We continue to strive to update our course selections and overall curriculum to be aligned to district, state, and national initiatives, as well as to keep students interested and engaged in the learning process.
